On December 7, 2011 we lost another family member. A son, brother, uncle, and friend. After battling cancer for a short time, the battle was lost and he was called home. We will all cherish the last few weeks we had with him and to truly see who Rick was and the love he had for everyone. He is no longer in pain and is with the loved ones that have already passed on. We miss him dearly, but we know we will all see him again someday. We love you!!

Austin & Marcie are FINALLY enagaged!! We are so excited for them and to have Marcie officially in the family. They are getting married on March 23, 2012.

Melisha is also engaged!! She met an amazing guy, Brad Stears. We could not have asked for anyone better to come into hers and Kenzlie's lives. We are so excited and happy for them and know that Shane is also happy. They are getting married on February 18, 2012.

Ernie Figueroa passed away yesterday due to two strokes. We are so grateful to have had him as a dad, father in law, and grandpa. He was such an amazing man and example to us all. We will never forget the memories and the time we had with him on earth. And look forward to being re-united with him someday as an eternal family. We are somewhat jealous that he has now joined Shane in heaven. I'm sure they had a joyous welcome and lots of hugs and smiling faces. Till we meet again!

Happy 28th Birthday to Shaner!! We hope you have a good birthday and are enjoying having grandpa with you now. We all love you very much and miss you like crazy!! You will NEVER be forgotten...always in our hearts.

After 2 years of not having our annual Pumpkin Carving Party, we decided it was time to do it again. We knew Shane would want us too, given the circumstances and it would be a step forward. It was nice to be with family and it was a fun party. It was great to have Gpa. Fig there with us for a little bit and missed everyone else who couldn't make it.

Last Monday, 10/25/10 was the 2 year mark of Shane's passing. Its still unbelieveable that he's gone. It will never seem real. Its been a hard 2 years, but with the church and family its been pretty good. We still miss him very much. We are so grateful for the Plan of Salvation and through that we know we can see Shane again and our family will be together again someday forever. With Shane's passing there has been blessings too. The major one is that Bronson is on a mission. None of us ever thought that would happen, but because of Shane's example and legacy, Bronson is serving the Lord. We will never forget Shane and the memories we have of him. He will forever be in our hearts and always be a part of our family even tho he's gone. The things that I always remember is something Shane told me when I went to a counseling session with Glenda Horning (Gma Figs friend). Shane said, " We never stop living, we just change the way we live when life is over." He also said, " I'm really happy here Kass- this place is full of joy." When I read that, I know that everything will be okay and that he's doing good up in heaven. We love you Shaner & can't wait to see you again!!

These are some pictures from the cemetary. The officer is from Shane's squad and went through the academy together. Officer Miguel Seville stood guard at Shane's grave site all day. He took his own personal day to do this for Shane. He is truly a hero in my family's eyes and I know Shane is very grateful for this amazing act that he did for him. Thank you Officer Seville!!

I know I've been slacking on updating the blogs, college life is just soo busy. haha jk! Here are some recent pictures of our beautiful Kenzlie :) From about 2 weeks ago. She sure is growing up and I still can't believe it! She's talking a lot more now and its the cutest thing. She can say everyones names pretty good, except mine, she calls me "Sassy" which I of course don't mind. She LOVES to dance! Its the funniest thing. She's a good dancer too, she knows how to get down! And still looking like her daddy :)

I can't believe its been two years since Shane has been gone. It seems like forever! We are now 2 years closer to being with you and all being together as a family once again. A few weeks ago we got the chance to have Kenzlie over for the WHOLE weekend! We were so excited when Melisha asked us to watch her and have her spend the night.The last day we had her, we went to go visit Gpa Ernie in the hospital. Once he saw Kenzlie, he got the biggest smile on his face and was so happy to see her. Kenzlie, not so much, but she would blow kisses and wave to him and say I love you to him. Gpa Ernie was playing peek-a-boo with her :) It was a nice visit. We had tons of fun having her and spending time with her. She is growing up way too fast and is the cutest, smartest, funniest girl ever! We are so grateful we have her!

This was on Saturday when we went to visit Gpa Fig. He seemed to be doing better and improving more and more. We hope he can come home soon! He doesn't deserve to be where he is now, so please pray that he will get moved back to where he was, in a better room and not with some psychos and crazy people! Not to fond of where they moved him! Shane Memorial Ceremony

To all our family and friends -

We want to invite all of you to a dedication ceremony for Shane which will be held at the accident scene (19AV-Roeser) on Friday Oct.23rd. Part of this short ceremony will be the unveiling of a memorial marker which will stand forever as a reminder of our hero.
The dedication will begin at 10:00am. Parking will be available at the church located on the NW corner.

The City of Maricopa will be holding a short dedication ceremony in which a bridge will be dedicated and named for Shane. This will be held on Monday Oct.26th @10:00am.

Can I just say I'm SO.... excited for this movie! It comes out June 24, 2009. I can't wait :) Shane was also very excited for this movie. He loved Transformers! We all do. Knowing Shane tho, he probably got to see some of it getting made. 4 weeks!!!!!

Shane/ Officer Figueroa #84845, recieved the " Medal of Valor"award for the shooting his partner, Brent Freyberger # 8674, and him were in on Oct. 31, 2007. This is the highest award you can get with the Police Department. Shane also received the "Medal of Honor" award. We wish you could have been their...physically to receive your medals last night. I remember when you first told us about the story and what had happened about the shooting. You were also VERY excited to get this award(Valor) and very proud of yourself. We are very proud of you and your service within the 3 short years you served as a police officer. We will NEVER forget your selfless act to help, serve, and protect with honor! CONGRATS Shane!!!!

NPW is a week full of candlelight vigils,memorials,etc to honor the Fallen Officers of 2008 for the whole U.S. We are obviously going for Shane/Officer Figueroa. I really wish we were going to DC for a total different reason. I never thought my first time to DC was going because of my brother who is now passed :( This is not gonna be fun....

Here are some extra shirts we have from the Memorial Run and ones we ordered ourselves. The money that comes from the shirts is going to go towards our family's trip to D.C., for National Police Week in May 2009, to honor Shane. The black shirts are $15 and the white ones are $7. Officer Shane Figueroa Memorial Run

On Feburary 5, 2009 the ALEA recruit class #447 is running their very first Memorial Run. This run will start from the Academy at 1300 hours and end at the Academy at approximately 1500-1530 hours. The route will be: Academy grounds to 15th Ave.,15th Ave. northbound(including some canals, etc.) to Roeser, westbound to 19th Ave., and then returning the same route. The run is 7 miles in length, and is on fairly flat and easy running ground.

Their will be a brief memorial ceremony at the site where Shane lost his life :( For those that are unable to run, they can meet at the site of the memorial. Thank you!

We are having our 5th Annual Run to Remember on January 10th, in downtown Phoenix at Wesley Bolin Plaza to honor our Fallen Officers from 2008. Shanes Funeral

Shane really got honored the right way.
There was 2-3,000 ppl in attendance.
That shows that Shanes has touched so many lives.

Shane Cory Figueroa

On October 25, 2008, Shane passed away.
My parents got a call at 3am from Melisha, Shanes wife
that Shane was in a bad accident...
At 3:30 they woke me(kassidi) up to tell me what had happened.
As soon as i heard, I broke down crying.
So then we were off to the hospital...ran only a few red lights :/
When we got to the hospital there were a ton of officers
outside the hospital doors.
When they told us that Shane didn't make it...
Well it all went down hill from there.
We all started balling, practically falling to our knees.
We went inside and officers were lined up in the hallways
leading to the room where Melisha and her family were.
Austin arrived and we told him.
He didn't believe the bad news at all.
None of us didn't and couldn't believe it.
How could this happen,? especially to Shane.
He had his whole life ahead, a new baby girl, Kenzlie
and a wife, Melisha, who he loved more than anything.
He was so happy with his new little family.
Anyways, we couldn't get ahold of Bronson for a while.
Finally, Josh found him and told him what had happened.
He was shocked and crushed like the rest of us.
We got to see him in the hospital.
I couldn't comprehend that, that was Shane
lying there, not alive..not breathing.
That was the WORST day ever!!!
Luckily, we had all our family and friends
there for us in our time of need.
Thank you to everyone that has helped us
in the past difficult month.
